Poetry - You Are A Rock; They Are The Sea by Mihaela Vasileva

“You Are A Rock; They Are The Sea”

You are a rock,

They are the sea.

You are the foundation of houses and bridges,

They are the creators of storms and ditches.

You are a rock,

They are the sea.

You are the material of wondrous artists,

They are the lifeline of evergreen forests.

You are a rock,

They are the sea.

You are a work of wonder and light.

Yet, they are the ones who sculpt you right.

You are a rock,

They are the sea.

You sink to the bottom and you try to breathe,

Yet, they are the ones who hold you beneath.

You are a rock,

They are the sea.

You are what is hurled at those that do wrong,

They are the ones who deceive with cunning song.

You are a rock,

Yet, they are the sea.

They try to convince you that you're the one at fault.

Have you looked at them?

Have you seen the violence and assault

of thunderstorms, hurricanes, monsoons and such?

Did the sea ever think

that they were too much?

You are a rock,

But, they are the sea.

They will go around, with power and might,

While in you, they instill fear and fright.

They make you believe that you have the power to hurt,

But maybe they should ask,

Why we find ourselves not on water

but on dirt.

That dirt which houses our homes and our schools,

That dirt makes the sea look like fools.

That dirt, which, you rock, have made,

That fact, the sea, cannot ever fade.

They are the sea,

But you,

are a rock.

You stand your ground and don't retreat away.

The sea is strong too, but at fear, they sway.

Don't worry if you're not yet polished well,

Or if you're still too coarse.

All things find their way.

You are a rock, of course.
